5 Key Ingredients for the Ultimate Group Tailgate Party

 Tailgate Time!

Would you prefer spending 30 - 60 mins in gridlock traffic trying to leave the ground immediately after a game, OR catching up with friends and family for food, drink, and a chat and then leaving when the traffic has cleared? Yes, tailgates are not only fun but they're smart!

If you live outside the US, Australia, or South Africa, you may not know what I'm talking about. A tailgate is a catch-up that takes place in the parking lot before or after a sports event. It's an opportunity for friends and fans to come together, share a meal, and revel in the excitement of the game. Tailgates often feature some food (hot dogs, dips, snacks, etc), and it is not uncommon to have a small portable grill sizzling.

Tailgates are great for groups of friends to spend time together because they foster a sense of camaraderie and community. Friends can bond over their shared love of the game, strategies and predictions, while enjoying each other's company in a relaxed, outdoor setting.

So here are my top 5 ingredients to hosting a successful tailgate:

  • 🌭 Great food: A variety of delicious, easy-to-eat foods like burgers, hot dogs, and sandwiches are essential. Don't forget the sides and snacks, such as chips, dips, and salads.

  • 🍻 Beverages: Keep everyone hydrated with a selection of non-alcoholic drinks like water, soda, and sports drinks. If you're hosting an adult-only event, consider offering a selection of beer and wine.

  • 📺 Entertainment: Music and a TV to watch pre-game coverage or other sports events can add to the fun and keep the energy high.

  • Comfortable seating: Provide portable chairs, benches, or blankets for your guests to sit on while they enjoy the festivities.

  • ⚽️ 🏀 🏈 🏉 🥏 Something to throw around: Especially if you have kids, big or small, a quick throw around of a ball or frisbee before or after the game gets your group into the competitive spirit.
